I love nature, beauty, and colour, which has inspired my nature series. Beautiful Hummingbirds in the height of summer inspired me to paint this artwork. They are so divine. They take your breath away with their beauty, their fragility and their colours. How did nature create such awe-inspiring beauty?
The painting has a beautiful jade hummingbird amongst green foliage and pastel flowers. The Jewel of the Sky is the hummingbird nick name, and they are so beautiful. You are held spellbound when you see them flapping their wings and eating nectar,
There are many remarkable facts about the hummingbird: They are so small they only weigh as much as an AA battery; their wings beat so fast they actually make a humming sound; they can fly in any direction including backwards, sideways and in a figure 8 pattern; they migrate between North and Central or South America to feed on summer nectar; they can eat huge amounts of nectar and their metabolism is nearly 100 times faster than an elephant; they scout out and eat nectar from 1,000 – 2,000 flowers per day; they have excellent eyes and ears, detecting ultraviolet rays, preferring red flowers with tubular shapes.
There is also symbolism around the beautiful Jewel in the Sky, such as happiness, joy, resilience, agility, healing, eternity, and it is said that the hummingbird invites you to embark on an epic quest, heading for the nectar of life.
